- Mink Based Information
The Ruttilias Den
My rats are first and foremost my pets before breeders.
This site contains all my ratties information along with their pedigree information.
RATS We are a partnership in Southern California; Myself in Apple Valley, my brother rattery, Rats Not Bombs Rattery located in Chino, and my sister ratteries, Blue Rat's Tail Rattery in Riverside, and Dream Boat Rattery located in Hemet (all listed again at the end of page, including links). My rats are first and for most pets before breeders! I go into a lot of information on my rats, since they're are so many different and new varieties that I am working with. I breed for HEALTH, temperment/disposition, longevity, and for overall conformation (in which, is all indeed genetic). My rats are registered with BRBB/ and soon with NARR. I am working on having ratties ready to start showing in the near future. All of my ratties are hand raised by us and the children in our lives. I love all of my rats, and take responsibility for every life that I "create" with that in mind every litter is planned along with a waiting list for possible adopters. I want to make this experience enjoyable for a person, a couple, or a family. I am very passionate about raising my rats, but I do indeed take it very seriously. I do not claim to know everything, but I am still learning which I do enjoy greatly.
DRAGONS I raise a small amount of Bearded Dragons in various morphs, but mainly focusing on Hypomelanistics, and Marketed Leucistics. I rehomed a lot of my dragons for the time being, so I may work with better blood lines. I only have a pair of adults, which I expect appox. 50% Hypos in every clutch, as of right now. I have several other dragons, that I personally produced in which I am currently raising- all Hypos. I absolutely love my reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. I decided to raise Beareded Dragons since there's such a large trade for them, so finding private homes is not ever an issue. I love the fact that I raise my animals in the healthy settings that I personally provide for them. I start off all of my hatchlings on a variety of greens, BEFORE offering any captive bred (CB) insects to get them well started off. My dragons are large, healthy, and very well tempered.
PLEASE NOTE:
I am currently raising only several litters a year for the time being.
My main site is down, www.theruttiliasden.com is currently no longer up.

FANCY GOALS:
I am working on several projects, slowly but surely. I love many varieties of rats but unfortunately I can not work with them all, haha. I am focusing on mainly non-agouti based colors, but I do raise a few selected agouti based rats. I started color coating my lines so they are easier to distinguish on my site.
SPECIALTY- The Mink Based Line (Purple): I am working with marked and self marked mink based rats mainly in Merle. Most of these purple lines are still new, and there are various areas that need improvement. I also have an awesome mink based line that I have been working with since I started breeding in 2008! I am very excited to report that I have a good direction, and plenty to add to this wonderful, and very special and unique line! All blazes in this line are all recessive and are not linked to mega-colon (MC) like dominant blazing is.
The Siamese/Burmese Line (Red): We are working with a variety of Siamese and Burmese (mainly in non-agouti) in pink, ruby and black eyes. We have beautiful, well rounded ratties to get this line started off well. I will be very selective in shading, and conformation with any offspring I will possibly be using in my breeding program. I am in love with the temperament from this line! (-:
**NOTE: CURRENTLY NOT WORKING WITH THIS VARIETY, PLEASE CONTACT BRTR**
The Blue Lines (Blue): I am working with various shades of blues; American, and Russian in marked and self markings. My Russian Blue lines are not bred into American Blue/RED Platinum lines (PEB) and are indeed two seperate blue lines. I have been working on my American Blue line since I started breeding in 2008. My Russian Blue and Russian Silvers are associated to my Siamese/Burmese Line and my Mink Based Line (my merles in general) as of right now, and may remain to stay in these lines. I love to see the splash of color in my rattery with my little mix of ratties. I have been guiding BRTR, along with providing companions/possible breeders to her from these lines.
**NOTE: CURRENTLY NOT WORKING WITH THESE VARIETIES SPECIFICALLY, PLEASE CONTACT BRTR, BOMB AND DBDR (listed below)** THEY WILL BE OCCASIONALLY AVAILABLE.**
The Kinky Line- Harley Carriers (Green): There is not much known about this particular recessive trait that causes the coat to be shorter than normal, appears very dense, and feels wooly. I am honored to be working very closely, and guided by Janine (ARS) to improve the reduced fertility, and the other issues in these rats in general (which Janine has reported). I will be creating a page on this site with more information, updates, and of coarse photos with these special guys. I post when we get them sometime this fall. Here is a link to access more infomation on the Kinky Rats that Janine Shull(ARS) wrote, with her findings on the gene, and how this all started in her Rattery. Janine's beloved, Coffee (a beige kinky buck) is the foundation for this is very rare, and wonderful gene that was thought to be extinct.
**NOTE: CURRENTLY NOT WORKING WITH THIS VARIETY AS OF YET**

Other recessive traits that I work with:
Manx (tailless), Roan (UK Husky) & Recessive Blazed Line (Orange): I am working with a documented, active tailless line ( carries roan heavily). Manx is a mutation that causes severe body alterations. There are many reasons to heavily consider breeding for manx due to several different reasons, and to be knowledgable about common health issues and deformities. My manx line (carries roan) is a strictly BFF (Bonnie's Furry Friends) line, which has a reputation of very healthy lines.
Since manx is a tricky recessive gene, and out crossing to unrelated lines can mean that we never see this trait again. It will be a long while before we have actual manx ratties available for adoption if we even produce any, unless they are retired breeders as of right now. This line has been known to be an active tailless line, stated by others, also working with this line. Color, ear type, coat, and markings (other than recessive blazes and merles) will not matter at the moment in our Manx Lines, all we worry about is health, temperment, and conformation. Plus, I will be holding back most of our manx produced, to possibly use for my breeding program.
Roan aka UK Husky is a recessive UK marking and fading gene in rats. The marking is along the lines of a berkshire/ banded with a blaze or head spot. Quality roans gradually fade over time, white/silver hairs set in through out the coat. The recessive marking does not appear to be linked to MC like dominent blazing does unless bred to other spotted lines. I do not have any photos of roans at the moment, but please feel free to google. They are gorgeous and a very unique trait in rats.
Harley Line (recessive coat type)- (Pink): Will be a color coated line for the time being, since I am in the process of creating a foundation for them. I will be breeding my harleys far, far away from hairless as much as possible. I am focusing on using rex to improve any lactation issues, kidney & liver failure to create a healthier rat with a nice thickier coat in my harleys. Harleys will eventually, be apart of my mink based variety since, both lines are already some what related. I will be creating a page for my harleys where I'll keeping updates/observations along with photos as well.
Satin and Dwarf Line (Lavender): The satin strain that I am working with is a recessive coat type. Hair is longer and is fine compared to the average smooth coat rat but not quiete like a Harley coat. Satins can be in any color, and combined with other coat types. My satins were recently expressed in my dwarf carrier litter so Satin Dwarves are expected in the near future. *This satin strain, is not the "common" greasy looking coat type but rather a longer, thick, coarse coat (like a straight, rex-texture coat) I still know little about it, other than it is acting as a simple recessive trait. *
Dwarf is also a recessive trait and are not just small sized rats, they are indeed true dwarves. Dwarves are known for their enlarged eyes, and can range from lengths (my dwarves on average 3-4 inches full grown).
